As others reported, the scammer claims to have gained access to an email account. This is NOT the case. If you receive this email, you are not in any danger – it simply means that your email/password combo was compromised in a data breach. The hacker uses scripts to SPOOF / Fake an email Header information. They basically put any Sender Name / Sender Email combo they want. Then they automate blasting an email to every person in a data breach, claiming to have gained access to one's email account. Paying their ransom does nothing – even if someone paid the BTC the scammer would not know who paid! (The address is same for everyone, so all payments remain entirely anonymous.) I repeat – if you receive this email, your email is not compromised in the manner as the scammer claims. HOWEVER, you NEED to update your password to a secure version anywhere you used any form of the password the scammer reports.
