Received email from my own email address trying to blackmail me. Although the email is my current email the password the blackmailer said was hacked is not the password for my email but is for my old LinkedIn account, which I closed almost 2 years ago. I believe this is a bluff from the blackmailer since I have not visited any of the sites listed by the blackmailer. The blackmailer says he will lockup my computer in 2 days if I don't send him $804 in bitcoin. I have no intentions of complying with this threat. Since I am using a Mac that I purchased less than a year ago I believe that if any ransomware was installed it was on the older Mac that had a harddrive failure almost a year ago. I also ran a scan with MalwareBytes and there is no trojan or malware detected. I will therefore call the blackmailer's bluff and wait to see what happens. I regularly backup my critical information so if the computer does lock up i will simply wipe the drive and install my backups.
