I received an email (actually, this is the sixth or seventh email I've received) that said I'd been hacked and told me to send bitcoin in the amount of $874 (the amount has varied but has been in the range of $850 to $975) to the bitcoin address noted above.

Same one that's been going around a lot lately. Got hands on list of old username/password from a compromised site and pretends to have to planted a trojan. Demands payment to this BTC or will distribute captured screenshots from webcam (which I don't have....). Just ignore and change your password if you haven't already.

Whoever sent this ransomware is a total freaking moron. IGNORE AND DELETE. I especially love this part: "So, when you had fun on intime sites (you know what I mean!) I made screenshot with using my program from your camera of yours device. After that, I jointed them to the content of the currently viewed site. Will be funny when I send these photos to your contacts! And if your relatives see it? BUT I'm sure you don't want it. I definitely would not want to ... I will not do this if you pay me a little amount. I think $813 is a nice price for it!" Yeah, riiight. If the idiot had accessed the system he claims to have accessed my "dirty" secrets are source code, papers, and lots of email about code/coding/etc. Oh, and a browsing history that would put just about anyone to sleep.
