To gain the trust of the victim, they exhibit a password which was really associated with that email account over the registration on the recently attacked Marriot/Starwood Guest Reservation system, pretending to have gained access to all your personal information, contacts and communications. http://news.marriott.com/2018/11/marriott-announces-starwood-guest-reservation-database-security-incident/ Fortunately for me, the email I used for the registration was a fake receiving-only address, and the password I used was not associated with any other account, so I could clearly identify the scam. Moreover, they pretend to have infected me with an extravagant virus, even though my computer runs a quite robust version of linux.
